Darren Debono, the man who was allegedly injured in the attempted hold-up on the HSBC depot and was then shot again during the hold-up on a jeweller in Attard in November, was today jailed for two years and nine months after a court upheld an appeal made by the Attorney General from a previous sentence.

Debono had in May last year been convicted of the illegal possession of 83 grams of cocaine in circumstances which showed that the drug was not for his use. The discovery was made in February 2003. He had been jailed for six months and fined €800 by the first court.

The appeals court today revised the judgement, jailing Debono for two years and nine months and fining him €2,834.

Debono is currently being held in Corradino prisons having been refused bail after having been shot during the Attard hold-up.
