An old red telephone box at the top of Dingli Street in Sliema has been targeted by vandals.

The Sliema Heritage Society said the telephone box, which is at least 50 years old, had his timber door ripped off at the hinges and the closing mechanism was broken.

Phone boxes of this type are classed as Grade 2 national monuments.

The society condemned the vandalism and hoped the telephone box would be restored and the vandals apprehended.

Sliema council also condemned the incident. The vandalism took place in the early hours of Saturday.
