The pigmeat Industry Working Group, set up on the initiative of the Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment George Pullicino, had its first meeting last Friday.

This working group is made up of representatives of the FOI pork processing industry sector group, the Pig Breeders Co-operative (KIM), and the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the centralised cutting plant; the fresh pork supply situation; contracts currently being applied between processing and breeding firms in Europe; a joint marketing campaign for the local pork industry; and the applicability of safety net regulations.

FOI director general Edwin Calleja headed the FOI pork processing industry sector group delegation comprising of John Muscat, managing director, Prime Co. Ltd, and Andrew Agius Muscat, general manager, Chef Choice Ltd.
