The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) has published the first draft of the new national research and innovation (R&I) strategic plan that covers the period 2011-2020 with the aim of building on the achievements and lessons learnt over the past years.

The MCST said it wanted to contextualise the new plan within the economic realities

The MCST said it wanted to contextualise the new plan within the present economic realities as well as national and European developments over the past few years.

In order to do this, last October the Council set up a steering group and five thematic groups to support the identification of gaps in the system and propose measures to address them. In addition, the Council said it met with over 20 key stakeholders on an individual basis to further understand how the new strategy can be shaped to support the development of the R&I sector in Malta over the coming decade.

On the basis of the internal work carried out, as well as the consultations undertaken, the Council has published a first draft of the R&I strategic plan 2011-2020 for public consultation.

Feedback, submitted through the appropriate feedback forms, must reach the Council by e-mail on strategy.mcst@gov.mt by January 31.
