An elderly woman was robbed in her own home and left face down on the floor with her hands tied behind her back until she was found nearly 24 hours later.

The 74-year-old woman’s terrifying ordeal came to an end when she was discovered by members of her family yesterday afternoon.

She was taken to hospital suffering from shock but she is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

The police said someone broke into her house in New Street, Luqa, on Sunday at about 6pm, tied her up and made away with jewellery and cash.

At 5pm yesterday, the police received a call that their assistance was needed after the woman was found by members of her family, still bound and face down on the ground after a whole night and day.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna is holding an inquiry and a police investigation is under way.
