Tennis: John Isner proved his return to fitness with a straight-sets win over Ryan Harrison at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport. Isner saw his run at Wimbledon ended by a knee injury after just five minutes on court. Rugby Union: Richie McCaw will make his eagerly awaited return to rugby after a seven-month sabbatical on Saturday when the All Black flanker turns out for his Christ-church club. The 32-year-old had been on a New Zealand Rugby Union-approved break to help extend his career through to the 2015 World Cup but returned to training last month suggesting he is likely to feature for the All Blacks in the Rugby Champion-ship in August.

Basket, NBA: Los Angeles Lakers moved quickly to absorb the loss of the towering Dwight Howard by reaching an agreement to sign free agent centre Chris Kaman. The 31-year-old Kaman will ink a contract worth approximately $3.2 million for one year.

Cycling: Marcel Kittel won his second stage of the 2013 Tour de France on Tuesday, beating fellow German rider Andre Greipel in a sprint to the finish line. British sprinter Mark Cavendish came in third after bumping shoulders with Kittel’s Argos-Shimano team-mate Tom Veelers of the Netherlands, sending him crashing to the ground just before the finish line. Britain’s Chris Froome held on to the yellow jersey, one minute 25 seconds ahead of Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde.
