Records in the postal service are quite often mentioned all for the wrong reasons and the one I am about to relate beats them all. It definitely warrants an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

A birthday card posted through a letter box in Sliema on March 1, 2013 was reported as undelivered on April 21, 2013. The reply from Maltapost was that “investigations resulted in the negative”.

Lo and behold, however, the envelope somehow finally did turn up with the Maltapost date stamp of March 1, 2013 and the Central Mail Room - Malta date stamp of May 5, 2014.

Had the letter gone around the world it would not have taken one year, two months and four days to reach its final destination just two blocks away!
