Go has added the Uefa Champions League to its sports portfolio.
Sports subscribers will this season be able to watch fixtures of the English Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
Chief executive Yiannos Michaelides said last week that the company was now the undisputed home of premium sport content in Malta, giving subscribers access to all Formula 1 races, major golf tournaments, key tennis events, boxing, horse racing and a number of key rugby leagues and tournaments including the Rugby 6 Nations.
The Go sports offer has been extended till the end of September and two channels – Go Sports 7 and 8 – are available on the Go Interactive platform.
From Match Day 1, Uefa Champions League fans will be able to watch all eight matches simultaneously. The pay per view live streaming option is also available at www.go.com.mt. Go has also introduced its sports mobile Match Tracker, a mobile application for iPhone.
Go Sports 1 will be airing in high definition with extensive coverage of Formula 1 and other selected sporting events including football, golf, tennis and rugby.
Go has also introduced PLTV HD, a channel produced by the Premier League with top programmes including Match Day Live, a live studio programme that includes an extended build-up before each game and then the latest live action from the Barclays Premier League.
The platform features Football Today, a two-hour live studio-based programme with top panellists, and Fanzone, an hour-long phone-in studio show where viewers from all over the world join the debate by contacting reporters (and ex-footballers) live in the studio via Skype or phone.
There are also daily news slots covering all the breaking news and stories from the Barclays Premier League.
PLTV HD is available to all Go interactive and Go sports premium customers. UK football star commentators John Dykes and Alan Curbishley attended the launch event.
Another initiative will see Go celebrating Malta’s footballing lookalikes and will launch a hunt for Malta’s Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robin van Persie, Gianluigi Buffon and many more stars.
Applicants will be encouraged to appear in front of a panel made up of sports journalists and supporters’ club presidents who will judge them on their physical resemblance and their footballing skills. The competition will end with a game between two all-star teams, with prizes to be won.
