Lately, I went to the Fiat dealer to buy a new car. I was told I would be given a five-year warranty. At first it seemed fine but this warranty was being given against a payment of €70 for each service. By law, whatever we buy is covered by a two-year warranty at no cost and under no obligations.

In the past, the first service to the car – that usually happened after six months or 600 miles, whichever came first - was free. We only used to pay for the oil and filter but not for labour. Now we have to pay for all five services that will cost €350.

We are thus being deprived of the two-year warranty granted to us by law.

Even if a person wants to service the car himself or at his mechanic he will lose his two-year warranty, which we are supposed to have.

I believe that if they want to give us a five-year warranty, the first two should be free of charge.

This is a robbery in broad daylight. I contacted the consumer’s affair department regarding this matter but to no avail.

I hope the authorities do something about it and stop this abuse.
