A man was arraigned yesterday charged with stealing a collection box from a Valletta pharmacy.

A total of 1,367 coins adding up to €25.24 were in the donation box stolen by the man, an incident caught on CCTV footage, a police inspector said.

Stephen Galli, 49, a US-born man resident in Sliema, is pleading not guilty to the theft of the collection box which allegedly took place on July 30 from Chemimart in Republic Street, Valletta.

Police inspector Daryl Borg presented Magistrate Neville Camilleri with three paper bags filled with coins of one, two and five cent dominations.

Mr Galli is also charged with stealing a perfume from the same shop in November. He was remanded in custody.
