British High Commissioner Louise Stanton last Monday raised the Olympic flag for the first time at the High Commission in Ta’ Xbiex to mark 200 days to the start of the Olympic Games, to be held in London this summer.

The games will take place from July 27 to August 12 and the Paralympic Games will be held from August 29 to September 9.

London is the first city in the world to host the Olympic Games for the third time.

The High Commissioner said: “On your marks and get set for the greatest show on earth. The London Olympics are only 200 days away and the sense of anticipation is mounting all across the world, including in Malta.

“I am delighted that the Malta Olympic Committee consider the London Olympics their most important event this year, and I wish the Maltese team the best of luck for the games – particularly the promising William Chetcuti, who I understand has a genuine chance of a historic first medal for Malta. Awguri mill-qalb.”

The flag will be raised on another eight occasions this year in honour of landmark Olympic and Paralympic dates. This includes the games themselves, when the flag will be flown for the duration.
