The Malta Drifting Association held the fourth round of racing from the 2015 Championship in Mellieħa, on Sunday.

A sizeable crowd gave the five Pro and six Street Legal drivers their full backing as cars drifted sideways and set smoke on their way up the hill at the picturesque village core.

All teams settled in their paddock area before the first practice runs were held as drivers lined up to get the feel of the car at the challenging circuit.

Christian Borg was unlucky to see his Nissan Silvia S14 developing some technical problems just before his first practice run.

So, while all other teams were practising and building confidence, the Drift Knights men had to dedicate precious time working on the car, finally making it in time for the last try.

When the qualification session got underway, Kane Pisani also experienced problems after his Supra’s differential broke, leaving oil on the circuit. Thanks to the intervention of the marshalls, the road was cleaned up and racing started without delay.

The honours in Street Legal went to George Muscat in his 350z.

Dorian Galea (BMW) was second ahead of Carmelo Zammit.

Fourth place went to Marisa Grixti in her Nissan S14a and newcomer Brian Mifsud (BMW) followed in the final rankings.

In the Pro category, Borg lived up to his team’s motto ‘Go Big or Go Home’ when powering to victory despite the early hiccups.

Andrea Fabri followed inside his Supra despite brushing against the side barriers a couple of times.

Shawn Spiteri, who had stayed away from the drifting scene for some time, marked his comeback to the sport with a fourth place ahead of Mifsud (BMW) and Kurt Grima (Toyota).

In a statement, the organisers praised the drivers for the level of competition and thanked all those who contributed to make it an-other memorable occasion of racing, including judges Adrian Figallo and Kaycee Wood.

“Such a long-awaited for racing series would not happen without the time, dedication and support of everyone involved,” the statement said.
