A prostitute has been jailed for seven months after she argued with police officers, violently resisted arrest and assaulted two officers when they stopped her  loitering in Marsa.

Carmela Spiteri, 47, from Valletta, was spotted by officers on the night of July 15 and they proceeded to arrest her for loitering with intent to prostitute. Ms Spiteri put up a fight and began swearing at the policemen who were trying to restrain her.

She pleaded guilty to assaulting Police Sergeant Denise Camilleri and Constable Mariella Spiteri, violently resisting arrest and attacking Police Sergeant Kenneth Brigniano and Constable Jonathan Farrugia, loitering with the intent to prostitute, disobeying orders, breaching the peace and relapsing.

Magistrate Carol Peralta sentenced her to seven months in jail.
