I wish to thank the Mission Fund and Malta Missjunarja for doing their utmost, at great sacrifice, to help all Maltese missionaries. I am also grateful to the generous people of Malta, who are helping fellow human beings who are greatly disadvantaged.

I am one of four Sisters of Charity, from four different countries, serving since March 2009 in a remote village in Cameroon. Our village had never seen nuns before, for nobody ever wanted to go there. We did, believing that it was God who was calling us to go there.

I will never forget the welcome we received from those poor but kind people. I do pastoral work but I spend the whole morning in the parish office listening to villagers’ problems. From the very first day, I won their trust and now they come to pour out their hearts to me.

I am also in charge of the teachers’ salaries and the pupils’ fees, so I meet many parents who speak of their family life; this is the best way to get to know them, especially when I visit them at home.

During these two years I noticed the parents’ efforts, at great sacrifice, to send their children to school, when before they preferred to keep them at home to work, especially in the fields.

I came to Malta with a dream: to return to Cameroon with at least €3,000 to build a kindergarten. We must do our best to have at least Catholic children frequent a Church-run kindergarten.

Please help me realise my dream. Let our little ones especially be given a Catholic education and upbringing to help them in life.

This year, thanks to the generosity of the Maltese people who gave money to Malta Missjunarja and the Mission Fund, I was able to cover the fees of some poor pupils, buy their schoolbooks or uniforms. Will I be able to help them again next year? This depends on your generosity and love for the poor.

I would also like to help the sacristan and his family, whose six children more often than not go hungry. How can such a large family live on a salary of €40 a month? This is only one example out of so many others that break your heart.

Do we have the courage to take three meals a day when these miserable people barely have one poor meal a day?

Think of it and may God help you to put your hand in your pocket and wholeheartedly help our poor. May God bless you and your generosity. Kindly send any contributions to the Sisters of Charity, 152, Sisters Street, Tarxien TXN 1042. Thank you.
