US President Barack Obama’s planned visit to Bali for an Asian summit later this year is expected to provide a tourism windfall to a resort island famous for azure seas and tropical tranquillity. Tourism industry chiefs say Obama’s visit – which the White House has yet to confirm – will help relieve tourists’ anxieties about security on Bali, which was hit by deadly terror bombings in 2002 and 2005 targeting Western tourists.
