The Association of Gozitan NGOs joined other international communities to mark International Volunteer Day on December 5.
On this occasion the association launched its new website which was inaugurated by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono during an activity held at the NGO centre in Xewkija.
Through this website the association provides information together with a copy of the application form for non-governmental entities wishing to enrol as members.
From time to time the website will be updated to promote activities organised by the association itself. Affiliated members will be given space to publicise their organisation and activities.
Gozo NGOs Association president Antoine Vassallo said the 'modern' way to highlight the richness and variety of voluntary activities in Gozo was through the Internet and so the association has been working for some months to create a website which can serve as an 'advertising display case'.
The minister encouraged the association to continue in its efforts to support and coordinate the voluntary sector in Gozo.
Mr Vassallo said the association's first attempt at participating in a EU-funded project has now been accepted - the Leonardo Da Vinci project which is based on fortnight visits to Greece and Italy.
Through this close contact with foreign NGOs the association would widen the knowledge and expertise available, he said.
