Last Thursday evening, the Gozo Cathedral was the venue for a very well attended musical-literary soirée, during which a number of rarely performed musical pieces, mostly taken from the rich archives of the Gozo Cathedral, were executed.

The soirée formed part of a two-week programme of activities held all over Victoria on the occasion of the start of the ministry of the new archpriest of the cathedral parish, Mgr Ġużepp Attard.

The Chorus Ecclesiae Cathedralis together with the Cathedral resident orchestra took part. Soloists were soprano Rita Dimech, tenor Joseph Calleja, baritone Joseph Buttigieg, and bass Noel Galea. Musical direction was by Mro Colin Attard, Maestro di Cappella at the Cathedral.

During the literary part of the evening, a poem by Fr George Mercieca was read. Two orations one by Mgr Giovanni Gauci and one by Mgr Joseph Bezzina, Arch-Deacon and Canon of the Gozo cathedral Chapter, were also delivered.

Mgr Ġużepp Attard will be installed archpriest of the cathedral today during a Pontifical High Mass starting at 10 a.m.
