Daniel Bogdanovic's future with Sliema Wanderers has been thrown into uncertainty after he was suspended by his Premier League club for one month yesterday.

Club officials said Bogdanovic has been suspended for "showing a lack of interest and unprofessional attitude" during Sliema's 2-1 defeat to Marsaxlokk on Sunday.

The Serbia-born striker headed straight to the dressing room after being substituted by coach Edward Aquilina 65 minutes into Sliema's Championship Pool match at the Hibernians Ground.

The shock move to impose a long-term suspension on one of their players at such a delicate stage of the season raises serious doubts as to whether Bogdanovic will play another match for the Wanderers.

The one-month ban rules Bogdanovic out of four key matches against Hibernians, Valletta, Msida and leaders Birkirkara on April 2.

Bogdanovic, 25, had been a regular in Aquilina's first team since starting his second spell with Sliema having joined them on a one-season loan from Marsaxlokk last summer.

His positive impact on the team in the early stages of the season, when Sliema won their opening eight matches, suggested a better relationship between Bogdanovic and the club this time after differences had led to a premature exit from the Wanderers in January 2004.

However, this latest twist does not reflect positively on Bogdanovic's relations with the champions.

The Times can confirm that Bogdanovic was absent from training yesterday evening at the University grounds.
