Dingli Swallows are back in the hunt for promotion after they beat Zebbug 1-0 with Jason Cachia scoring the all-important goal in the first half. For Zebbug this was their third defeat of the season.

After 12 minutes, Zebbug's Justin Felice had a shot saved by Ivan Cassar. Five minutes later, Dingli striker Jeremy Agius was grounded in the box by the Rangers' keeper but the referee deemed it was no penalty. At the other end Rangers' captain Gordon Mallia hit wide from close in.

In the 31st minute, Dingli created their best opportunity as Jonathan Sapiano's shot was cleared off the line by Melvin Farrugia.

Dingli did manage to score seven minutes later when Cachia headed home from a corner.

After the break, Zebbug dictated the run of play and twice went close through Eric Sciberras. On 66 minutes, Dingli's Fabio Cauchi was sent off for a second booking. Sciberras almost put Zebbug level on 76 minutes but his shot just missed the Dingli goal.

The Swallows could have netted a second goal late on but Etienne Farrugia hit wide after a swift break.

Attard 2
Mellieha 2

A battling Attard dented Mellieha's promotion aspirations after holding on to a precious point in their bid to escape the drop .

It was Mellieha who scored first when Ibrahim Tarik's cross was not cleared by the Attard defence and William Borg was on hand to fire home.

Attard hit back but at the break they only had a Hashem Rhababh effort to show that finished wide.

Attard were the better team after the change of ends and deservedly equalised in the 67th minute through Josef Axisa from a Rhababh cross.

The goal boosted Attard and they went on to take a 2-1 lead when Frank Ellul headed the ball in from a Firas corner.

But their joy was short-lived as Mellieha equalised a minute later with a Tarik grounder.

Mellieha went all out in search of a winner but Attard managed to hold on to their point.

Qormi 3
Gharghur 0

Qormi moved four points clear at the top of Division Two after a comfortable win over Gharghur.

The latter, who dropped some of their regular players for this match, including goalkeeper Mark Aquilina and captain Karl Vella Petroni, are in deep relegation trouble.

After just one minute, Gharghur defender Robert Southward cleared off the line a Carmel Formosa shot.

It was all Qormi in these early stages and they took the lead on 28 minutes when Johan Zammit nodded the ball home after Gharghur keeper Ciantar just managed to keep out James Tabone's cross-shot.

The Gharghur goalkeeper limited the damage to his team when he blocked efforts from Thomas Paris and Joe Chetcuti.

Qormi maintained the upperhand in the second half and Chetcuti made it 2-0 on 70 minutes.

The match was all over three minutes later when substitute Andrew Scerri headed the ball home from close in.

Gudja United 0
Gozo FC 0

This clash between two teams hovering dangerously at the lower end of the standings ended in a goalless stalemate. The Gozitans were on top in the first half but after the interval it was Gudja who showed the better football.

In the opening minutes, Gozo keeper Victor Agius was alert to stop efforts from Gudja's Elvin Gauci and James Spiteri. But, gradually the 'visitors' gained the initiative and in the 25th minute Gudja's no.1 Matthew Xerxen did well to hold out a shot by Touali Mahjoub.

A minute later the Gozitans were unlucky as Sylvan Galea's lob hit the crossbar with Gudja's reply producing a Leslie Burke free-kick which just missed the target.

Agius made a fine save in the 61st minute to stop a Burke free-kick. At the other end, Gozo's striker Galea missed a sitter as he headed wide when all alone in front of goal.

Although Gudja did much of the attacking it was Gozo who almost scored a late winner but Kenneth Mercieca failed to hit home from an inviting position a minute from time.

Division Three

Zurrieq 1
Sta Lucija 0

Zurrieq netted the all-important goal on 48 minutes when Genuis hit a fine volley that gave Carabott no chance.

Sta Lucija tried to save the match and Azzopardi did well to keep out Cutajar's fierce drive.

Joe Lia almost sealed it for Zurrieq on 86 minutes but his shot bounced off the upright. Sta Lucija ended the match with ten players when defender Mario Farrugia was sent off for a second booking.

Fgura United 1
Siggiewi 3

Josef Micallef scored two goals that helped Siggiewi overcome the stiff challenge of Fgura and remain firmly on course for a place in the promotion play-offs.

Siggiewi made all the early running and on 13 minutes Pierre Spiteri was unlucky to see his shot hit the upright.

However, it was Fgura who took the lead when they were awarded a penalty after Eman Zammit fouled Howard Hughes in the area. Jason Mifsud made no mistake from the spot.

Siggiewi took just four minutes to draw level when Micallef put the ball into the net after being set up by Spiteri.

Siggiewi kept pushing forward in the second half and on 61 minutes Micallef was on target again when he finished off a good move from Dominic Camilleri.

Fgura pushed forward for an equaliser but that left them exposed at the back and Siggiewi fully exploited the situation when Eman Ciappara netted a third goal that sealed the match.

Sta Venera Lightnings 3
Pembroke Athleta 1

Leaders Sta Venera Lightnings obtained their 10th win from 11 matches to increase their lead over closest rivals Birzebbuga St Peter's to four points.

Pembroke responded with a David Azzopardi shot that just missed the target. Just before half-time, Said unleashed a powerful grounder that was parried by Debattista.

Sta Venera increased the pressure in the second half and took the lead in the 57th minute. From a Glen Micallef corner, Mark Buttigieg headed the ball towards Dylan Mercieca who fired home from close in.

The Saints doubled their lead on 61 minutes when Ian Falzon concluded a swift break and Pembroke pulled one back two minutes later with a goal from Karl Vella.

But Sta Venera made sure of the points with a third goal four minutes from time. They were awarded a penalty for a foul by Debattista on Mark Grech. Said scored to make it 3-1.

Pembroke's Joe Gauci and Said, of Sta Venera, were both shown the red card late in the match.
