A wild brown bear was rescued after being trapped in a hydropower station in northwest China, state media reported.

State broadcaster CCTV showed footage of the bear stuck at the metal drainage gate amid gushing water.

A local wildlife officer said the bear had no front teeth and was old, CCTV said.

After a 14-hour rescue operation, the animal was successfully lifted out using an excavator, put into a cage and brought to safety, it added.
