BDO Malta will be hosting its own masterclass at the highly-anticipated Malta Blockchain Summit for all those within the DLT space and for those who wish to learn more about the ways in which the firm is servicing the industry. The masterclass will take place on November 1 from 1.30pm in Saturn 1 and 2 at the Intercontinental Hotel.

The masterclass will consist of five active presentations by in-house professionals whereby the audience will be able to interact with the presenters, debate on any hot topics and ask any burning questions which they may have.

Josef Mercieca, BDO Malta’s tax and regulatory partner, will kick-off with a discussion on Malta’s newly established regulatory framework, paying close attention to the different aspects that make up the VFA Act which comes into force that same day. This presentation will also delve into how such frameworks may be utilised by those investors who are looking for the ideal jurisdiction to set up in. This will be followed by a presentation that identifies the potential tax and VAT benefits enjoyed by blockchain companies that base their operations out of Malta.

After this Sam Spiridonov, BDO Malta’s audit partner, will be discussing two differing viewpoints on blockchain technology. To start off with, he will be identifying the applicability and disruptiveness of DLT on the Accounting and Audit industry, followed by the issues faced within industry with regards to the regulation and accounting of such practices. Mr Spiridonov will then be joined on stage by David Butcher, BDO UK’s technology and media partner (who also forms part of the London Audit Group within the firm) to discuss the ways in which BDO handles the auditing of clients within the DLT space.

Following this, Rakele Gauci, BDO Malta’s risk and compliance manager, will delve into the dangers of money laundering and funding of terrorism, and what founders behind DLT Assets should be focusing on.

She will then look into where we are at locally and at EU legislation in terms of the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism within the DLT space. The masterclass will include high-level speakers such as BDO Malta’s CEO Mark Attard and international members forming part of the BDO Global Network. These talks along with those in attendance will stimulate a dynamic exchange of information and experiences. The masterclass will conclude with a social networking event.

Mr Attard, chief executive officer at the firm said: “BDO Malta will continue to take part in high profile events similar to the Malta Blockchain Summit. This masterclass provides a prominent platform for the firm to showcase the services and field expertise it has to offer while also fostering strong relationships with potential clients of repute.”
