I would like to know what the government plans to do to enforce the reduction of plastic usage by food and drink suppliers, apart from the plastic bottle refund scheme.

I note that a lot of food packaging is either unnecessary or unnecessarily uses plastic where cardboard or paper would be just as good. Examples of this would be egg cartons that seem to be used by every supplier these days, instead of the old cardboard ones, individual fruit and vegetables wrapped in cellophane and the wide use of handle-less plastic bags for fresh produce instead of paper bags.

Would the government consider introducing a scheme to discourage the use of plastic bags by, for example, charging 5c for every handle-less plastic bag used or crediting 5c for every paper bag used or customers bringing their own containers to shops?
