The APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale is a large-scale contemporary art exhibition directed by Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci.

The museum is currently filled with contemporary artworks and site-specific installations by 25 local and international artists, which all focus on the theme: ‘The Mediterranean: A Sea of Conflicting Spiritualities’.

Participating artists hail from Malta, the UK, the US, Germany, Austria, Russia, Jordan, Israel, Greece, Lithuania, Georgia, Latvia, France, Lebanon, Poland, Serbia and Australia.

Each artist has been assigned a particular space within the museum and has developed projects that respond to its permanent collection and thisyear’s subject.

Once again, an exhibit dedicated to Maltese modern artists hangs alongside medieval, baroque and contemporary artworks, bridging different eras and art historical periods by focusing on the overlapping nature of art across time.

Frank Portelli and Esprit Barthet are the chosen artists of this year’s exhibition, which is curated by Nikki Petroni and Melanie Erixon.

The exhibition is on at the Mdina Cathedral Museum until Sunday. It is open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm and on Sunday from 11am to 5pm. For more information, visit
