The ŻiguŻajg international festival for children and young people continues this week and comes to an end on Sunday.

It features over 150 performances and workshops at various venues by critically acclaimed international and national companies.

Details are available at www.ziguzajg.org. Tickets may be purchased online or from St James Cavalier’s box office (tel. 2122 3200).

The following are a few highlights of the programme.

One Morning I Left

The show features a trip to nature, through imagination. It’s a journey of colours, sounds, landscapes and animals, in which boys and girls are invited to discover, feel and enjoy the experience.

In this trip, a girl named Ana discovers what inhabits nature: the sun, the flowers, butterflies and several places. We see Ana milking a cow in the countryside, flying on a big bird over the desert, diving among bubbles and exploring the jungle. Objects like cloths, buckets, funnels and ropes come magically to life to support this journey.

Music, sounds and live songs serve as the text of the play. This mix of live music and vivid imagination makes for an intimate and captivating show.

Performances: Today at 5pm and tomorrow at 10am and 5pm at Studio A, St James Cavalier, Valletta. (Suitable for children aged 3+. Duration: 35 minutes. Form: music theatre. Language: non-verbal.)

Tetris

This extremely physical dance quartet explores how we connect with one another, building a private language to communicate and then invite others to enter into our world.

It is aimed at children who cannot sit still, for the ones who like to climb walls, and those who can imagine further than they can see.

Tetris has been touring Europe for a few years and had a good, enthusiastic response.

Performances: Today at 5pm and Sunday at 6pm at Valletta Primary School. (Suitable for children aged 6+. Form: Dance. Duration: 50 minutes Language: non-verbal.)

Naufragata

From the deck to the crow’s nest, each one of the members of the circus show Naufragata has to find his place.

Hanging on the ladder of time, they share short time moments, where complicity and fragility mingle.

Naufragata is a circus adventure cradled by live musical notes that bring us back to the ship like the siren song, rich with ambiguities and original madness.

Performances: Today and on Sunday at 7pm at the Catholic Institute, Floriana. (Suitable for all ages. Duration: 50 minutes. Form: Circus.)
