Italy's anti-corruption 'Mani Pulite' prosecutor Antonio Di Pietro will be addressing a demonstration organized by Civil Society Network on Sunday December 3 in Valletta.
In the 1990s Di Pietro exposed corruption and 'tangentopoli' in Italy, leading to various reforms in the political system.
The demonstration will also be addressed by writer Immanuel Mifsud, journalist Caroline Muscat, civil society network activist Miriam Galea and Italian investigative journalist Marilu Mastrogiovanni.
It will be the third demonstration organised by the network following the murder of blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The network is calling on the government to remove the police commissioner and the attorney general for failing to act against corruption. Their replacements should enjoy the support of at least two thirds of Parliament, in a spirit of consensus, the network said.
"Civil Society Network notes that the government took up its proposals for constitutional reform. But our support is conditional on an honest process headed by persons who are universally trusted, on transparency and on civil society participation in the reform process. To date, the government has only issued vague statements on the matter".
