Mulder: Premier League Swansea City have made Dutch goalkeeper Erwin Mulder their first summer signing on a free transfer after the 28-year-old turned down a new contract at Eredivisie side Heerenveen. Swansea said on their website that Mulder had signed a three-year deal and will compete with Polish international Lukasz Fabianski and Swedish keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt for the position.

Ake: Chelsea are expected to have the option of re-signing Nathan Ake once the defender completes a switch to Bournemouth. The 22-year-old Holland international was recalled from loan at Bournemouth in January by Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte. But now the Chelsea boss is willing to accede to Ake’s request to play regularly, with the Cherries hoping to complete a deal.

Sunderland: Sunderland owner Ellis Short has shelved takeover talks after deciding a sale “would not be in the best interests” of the club. Minutes after Preston announced that they  had given permission for Simon Grayson to discuss the managerial vacancy at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland released a statement confirming that talks with potential buyers had come to an end and that Short will remain at the helm.

Gonalons: Maxime Gonalons is close to leaving Lyon and joining Roma, the France international’s agent has announced. Gonalons, 28, had been linked to Premier League side Newcastle United, but with just a year left on his Lyon contract, he is set to leave the seven-time French champions for the Italian capital. Multiple outlets in Italy reported the transfer to be worth €5 million and said Gonalons would sign a four-year contract.

Defoe: Jermain Defoe has completed a move to Bournemouth on a three-year deal. The 34-year-old left Sunderland following their relegation from the Premier League last season. The striker had a successful loan spell at Dean Court early in his career.
