The Justice Reform Commission headed by Judge Giovanni Bonello this morning presented its first report to Parliamentary Secretary for Justice Owen Bonnici.

The report features 135 recommendations.

Judge Bonello explained that this was a discussion document and it would be published. Public consultation would be held for a month. The report, Dr Bonello said, contained ideas which were meant to provoke discussion.

A second report will be published at the end of next month. That would deal with specific aspects of the courts.

Dr Bonnici said it was hoped the commission would present its final report by October for immediate action by the government.
