A 26-year-old mother died in a car crash early yesterday morning while on her way to drop off her one-year-old daughter at her mother's house before going to work.
Rosianne Azzopardi was with her baby Yasmin on the Birguma bypass driving a Toyota Starlet towards Naxxar at 4.45 a.m. when the car was involved in a collision with a white Mitsubishi Pajero driven by an 18-year-old man.
Mrs Azzopardi died on the spot but her daughter escaped unscathed.
The man, from Pietà, who was driving towards Buġibba, immediately called an ambulance. He was slightly injured but in shock.
It is not clear how the accident happened but police sources said the Pajero might have skidded because the road was slippery with dew.
Mrs Azzopardi, who resided with her husband in St Paul's Bay, used to live in Ħamrun. In fact, she was on her way to her mother's place to drop off their daughter before working an early shift when the accident took place.
Magistrate Miriam Hayman appointed several experts to help her with her inquiry.
