Trap ace Frans Pace adjusted best to the unfavourable cold conditions at the Bidnija Ranges yesterday to win the Vassons Trophy, another competition organised by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation.

Pace was lagging behind at the end of the opening two rounds of the shoot after managing a modest 41 points.

However, he went on to secure first place with a high score of 23/25 single-barrel shots in the barrage finals. Pace finished with an overall score of 64/75.

Eugenio Borg won a shoot-off with Stanley Cardona for the runner-up position after both competitors had finished with a similar tally of 59 at the end of the barrage.

Cardona had completed the competition round on top of the leaderboard thanks to his 44 clays from 50. However, his performance in the finals was rather poor after managing a meagre tally of 15 hits.

The next competition to be organised by the shooting federation will be the Maionchi Skeet Trophy. This event will be held over two days, 75 clays on Saturday and 50 on Sunday before the finals.

Yesterday's result: 1. F. Pace (41+23) 64; 2. E. Borg (43+16) 59 + 3; 3. S. Cardona (44+15) 59; 4. G. Cassar (41+16) 57; 5. Jason J. Aquilina (42+14) 56; 6. G. Mifsud (40+13) 53.
