Members of the Malta Air Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club (MARPSC) are currently preparing for the forthcoming Games of the Small States of Europe, to be held in Cyprus in June.

Last weekend, the MARPSC held its second selection competitions in 10-metre air rifle and air pistol at its Bidnija ranges.

William Vella won the air rifle event in emphatic style, recording a superb Olympic MQS score of 571. He was followed by Lawrence Darmanin on 546 points and Charlò Chircop on 544.

The air pistol competition was also well contested with Ray Cacciattolo improving on his previous scores. He shot an excellent 549 to secure first place ahead of Martin Grech and Tony Galea.

Four young and dedicated shooters vied for the junior 'Open' air rifle title. William Smith showed his prowess by topping this competition with a record junior score of 521 points ahead of runner-up Noah Zammit. Odin Sammut and Samuel Mamo finished third and fourth respectively.
