Birkirkara's board of directors last night issued a statement in reply to comments made by MFA president Dr Joe Mifsud about their chairman Victor Zammit.

Referring to comments made by Zammit in a Sunday newspaper, Dr Mifsud insisted that the MFA had never been fined by UEFA for failing to honour its financial duties towards clubs participating in European competitions as alleged by the Birkirkara chairman in his quotes.

The Birkirkara statement said: "The directors of the club clearly state that they fully support its chairman's request to seek clarification in form of assistance available under Hatrick Club Licensing scheme. These funds are allocated to the national associations affiliated with UEFA so that the financial burden of the clubs applying for UEFA license could be alleviated.

"The club also states that is not, whatsoever, involved in any other controversies or other issues between the association or its president with other third parties and that is no dragging itself in such issues.

"Furthermore, the club will be asking for a meeting with the Association in the coming days to clarify its position."
