St Thomas More College's Żejtun Primary B recently organised a half day at the Corradino Sport Complex dedicated to the sport of hockey to launch of the school's work on the promotion of sport as an essential component of a healthy lifestyle.

Another aim of the event was to show how sport can be a socialising activity that helps pupils develop their social skills by playing as a team and helping each other.

Pupils in Years 5, 6 and 7 were taught the rules of the game, how to handle a hockey stick, control, dribble, and shoot the ball. The sport was completely new for most of the pupils and this added to their interest in learning the game.

The event was organised with the help of parents, the Sliema Hot Sticks Hockey Club, the Sports Promotion Unit and the college's PE peripatetic staff. The next similar activity on the school's school calendar is dedicated to the sport of tag-rugby.
