Thomas Zammit Tabona and Maya Podesta maintained their high positions in the provisional Optimist and Laser classifications respectively after six races were completed at the Limassol Sailing Centre yesterday.

Overnight leader Zammit Tabona retained his lead when finishing in the top four positions in the three races held yesterday. He has 11 points, one ahead of Monaco's Massimo Mazzolini.

The Maltese sailor had to deal with some tricky manoeuvres from the Monaco sailors in race five when he was obstructed by Mazzolini's team-mate Valentino Di Salvia.

A protest was lodged by the Maltese sailing officials at the end of the race and this was upheld by the jury who handed 18 penalty points to Di Salvia.

Edward Fleri Soler, who started the day fifth, lost ground in the standings as he finished the day eighth on 32 points while Karl Miggiani is 12th on 59.

In the girls' Optimists, Nicola Manduca dropped one place in the standings and is now seventh on 28 points. Monaco's Marine Prat leads the way with seven points.

In Laser categories, Podesta is only one point behind race leader Natasa Christodoulou, of Cyprus, after bagging two victories and a second-place finish yesterday. Elena Papazoglou, also of Cyprus, is third on 12 points.

Rachel D'Amato is the sailor behind the runaway top three after consistent top-five finishes yesterday. D'Amato has 25 points.

Zak Borg and Benji Borg face an uphill struggle after finishing the day fifth and eighth respectively.

Zak Borg has 22 points while Benji Borg totalled 35. Jan Rossi is currently ninth with 44 points. Pavlos Kontides, of Cyprus, is the leader with five points.

The final races in all three categories will be held today.
