Barcelona president Joan Laporta left the door open on Samuel Eto'o's future at the club this week as media reports linked him with a move away from the Nou Camp.

"The football market is very dynamic and there might be a surprise because he is a much-coveted player," Laporta was quoted as saying.

"It is our responsibility to ensure the club functions well at all levels. We would like him to continue, he has a contract."

The Cameroon international, who is tied until 2010, scored 30 goals in the Primera Liga and netted the opener for Barca in their Champions League final victory over Manchester United.

Everton trio sign contract extensions

Beaten FA Cup finalists Everton received a boost this week as international trio club captain Joseph Yobo, Tim Howard and Phil Jagielka signed contract extensions.

England defender Jagielka was Everton's player of the season but missed the 2-1 FA Cup final defeat by Chelsea last Saturday because of a serious knee injury.

Nigerian defender Yobo was Everton manager David Moyes' first signing in 2002, while US goalkeeper Howard joined on loan in 2006 from Man. United and signed a permanent deal in 2007.

"It's great that three valuable members of the squad have committed themselves to the club for a lengthy period," said Moyes, who earlier in the week rejected overtures from Celtic to replace Gordon Strachan as manager.

Advocaat set to coach Belgium

Zenit St Petersburg coach Dick Advocaat has agreed to take over as Belgium coach with the deal due to be finalised this week.

"The contracts are agreed and we just need to find a convenient time for both sides to put pen to paper and present our new coach to the press," a spokesman said.

Advocaat should take over on January 1 when his contract with Zenit expires and will be given an initial two-year deal with the possibility of at least another 18 months should Belgium qualify for Euro 2012.

Belgian media have reported that the 61-year-old Dutchman was keen on a move to Belgium to be nearer family and friends and that he would earn €600,000 deal a year.

Barry explains move to Villa fans

England midfielder Gareth Barry said a fear of losing his appetite for the game prompted his £12m move from Aston Villa to Manchester City.

"I want the chance to explain my decision. I have a massive fear of going stale and falling into a comfort zone," he wrote in an open letter to Villa's fans published in the Birmingham Mail.

"After changing my mind lots of times I came to the decision that the time was right for me and the club to part."

Barry, 28, who joined Villa as a 16-year-old trainee and played more than 400 matches for the club, signed a five-year deal with Manchester City on Tuesday.

Crisis... What crisis? FIFA posts profit

FIFA made a profit of $184 million in 2008 despite the global economic crisis but their accounts showed a huge dependency on the World Cup for revenue.

FIFA is budgeting for a loss in 2010 but only because the costs of the World Cup in South Africa next year are expected to be $560.4 million and much of the television rights cash has been received in previous years.

"We are in a sane, one could even say comfortable financial position," FIFA president Sepp Blatter said.

FIFA's congress in the Bahamas heard a financial report which showed overall revenue of $957 million and expenses of $733 million.

Kaka sale makes sense - Galliani

Selling playmaker Kaka would make economic sense for Milan but no other top player will be allowed to leave, chief executive Adriano Galliani has said.

In the closest anyone at Milan has come to saying the Brazilian is leaving, Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport that the club had little option.

"The reasons for the departure of Kaka are solely economic," he said.

"Even a great heart must confront the situation and make choices. Milan cannot go on losing €70 million a year."

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has not sanctioned any move yet and has said he will talk to Kaka on Monday before making a decision.

Dzeko likely to stay at Wolfsburg

Bundesliga footballer of the year Edin Dzeko said he was in negotiations to stay with Wolfsburg for another year.

"Talks on a new contract with Wolfsburg are currently under way. If I get what I have asked for I will most likely stay there for another year," Dzeko, currently in his hometown of Sarajevo, said.

The final decision is to be made within the next ten days, said the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

Dzeko has another two years on his contract with Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg and has recently been the focus of interest from clubs elsewhere in Europe including Milan, Arsenal and Chelsea.
