A 13-year-old Gozitan boy was critically injured yesterday afternoon when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

The incident took place at around 1.30 p.m. in Santa Marija Street, Xewkija, when he was hit by a Rover driven by a 34-year-old man from the village. He was taken by ambulance to Gozo General Hospital and later transferred by helicopter to Mater Dei Hospital.

A 71-year-old Gozitan man is also in a critical condition after he fell while he was assisting a relative carrying out works in Xaghra.

The man was initially taken to the Gozo General Hospital but was moved to Mater Dei because of his condition, the police said.
