A midweek cultural break is the idea behind the Wednesdays at the Manoel series that proved popular last season. It is being repeated and extended this time round.

Today is the first of the nine series of concerts and features leading Italian pianist Albertina Dalla Chiara performing works by Schumann, Chopin and Scriabin.

A graduate of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Dalla Chiara started her career as a concert pianist at a very young age, performing both in Italy and abroad. She has performed with many of the leading orchestras across Europe.

Besides a distinguished career as a pianist, Dalla Chiara has conducted seminars and lectures dedicated to the teaching methods and Russian music tradition of Heinrich and Stanislav Neuhaus.

She has given several concert lectures dedicated to Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann and Alexander Skrjabin, three composers whose works she is performing today.

The full programme includes Clara Schumann’s Variazioni su un tema di Robert Schumann Op.20, Schumann’s Fantasiestuecke Op.12, Chopin’s Mazurca in si minore Op. 33 No. 4 and Scriabin’s Sonata-Fantasia No.2 Op.19 in Sol diesis minore, 5 Preludes Op.74 and Poema Op.72 Vers la flamme.
