Many letters and articles are being written about the dwindling tourism in Gozo. Some opinions put it down to swine flu, cheap airlines, the recession...

I love Gozo and have been a regular visitor for the past 10 years, having invested there considerably. I will continue to visit hoping that the island will wake up one day soon and stop overcharging visitors, keep the streets and rural areas clean, enforce aesthetics and environmental criteria into the building of apartments (if more are indeed needed), look after the heritage elements, and in general once more become the patriotic island that it once was, proud of a well-kept environment that was value for money.

We all must work together to steer Gozo back to the once sought-after haven that it was before greed overtook us. If we want tourism to flourish again (including quality tourists from Malta) we need to deliver value and pleasing environments. Unpopular compromises will be necessary: short term pain equals long-term gain.
