I would like to thank Emily Barbaro Sant for the dignified way in which she wrote her letter entitled St Claire, Patron Of TV (August 15). I join with her plea to God: "May God bless them all for the prayers they say for the outside world". I would also add: "May God bless them for being a living prayer for the entire world". Through the Poor Clares, together with other contemplative orders, the Lord is blessing the world!
The never-ending legacy of St Clare resides in her focus on the eternal life. To appropriate only God! This is her basic understanding of poverty. In her First Letter to the Blessed Agnes of Prague St Clare writes: What a great laudable exchange: to leave the things of time for those of eternity, to choose the things of heaven for the goods of earth, to receive the hundred-fold in place of one, and to possess a blessed and eternal life.
I concur once more with Ms Barbaro Sant by praying to God: "May (You, O Lord) give them more vocations" to help us, in the outside world, to focus and live for God as the Apostle exhorted us: "If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's" (Romans 14:8).
