A woman in labour was escorted to hospital by two policemen this morning, who were approached by her husband while they were stuck in traffic.

The inspector and a constable were in Vjal Santa Luċija in Paola on their way to take part in a parade in Valletta as part of Police Week celebrations.

The frantic man was worried that he would not get her to hospital in time and that she might end up giving birth in the car – but the police immediately changed their plans and escorted the woman to Mater Dei.

The police said that the inspector and constable then went on to Valletta for the parade – but gave no news on how the birth went!
