Senglea will celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Victories in style tonight, having won the traditional September 8 regatta this afternoon in a close contest with neighbours Cospicua and Marsa. The contest went down to the wire, with Cospicua, Senglea and Marsa having been in the running for the coveted shield up to the last all important race in the Open category.

Earlier Vittoriosa won Category B, retaining the trophy they won in the March 31 races.

The regatta was held on the Grand Harbour fairway under partly cloudy skies. A large number of people occupied vantage points around the three cities, particularly Senglea Point, but spectators were not numerous on the Valletta side of Grand Harbour.
