Gian Carlo Ellul, 1st year, Bachelor of Commerce.

Since I had no exams or tests during the first semester I am expecting the bulk of the work and studying to be in this semester, as well as more assignments, as I had only two in the first semester.

I already have a group work assignment which is going to be between 7,500 and 10,000 words long, and I expect that to take up a large chunk of my time meeting up with my colleagues and collecting data from various institutions.

I am also expecting a more hectic schedule since my lectures have increased, so I have to go to more places in less time.

On certain days I will be spending up to 11 hours at University due to the long hours of lectures and time spent at the library either studying, working on tutorial homework or completing assignments.

All in all, I expect the second semester to be a good test of my academic abilities as I will have to make a bigger effort to study in order to obtain a good weighting for my results.

Bernardette Azzopardi, 2nd year, B. Communications with Psychology.

This semester is filled with lots of new and interesting subjects that are the most relevant to my course so far. However, along with the full timetable come those oddly placed ‘free’ hours – the ones where it’s too long to hang around the canteen but too short to drive or walk home and be back in time for the lecture. So either way I expect my University friends and I will be spending more time at campus, giving us time to get to know each other better.

We also need to live up to our New Year’s resolution to form study groups and study from the second week of this semester. We made this resolution following the shock of our overloaded timetable and when we realised we probably will not pass any exams if we follow our usual routine of cramming a week before exams start.

So, I expect the second semester to be filled with long hours of lectures, studying, sitting around in cafes on campus and counting down the days till summer.

Gabriel Schembri, 2nd year, B. Communications with European Studies (Hons).

My second semester usually starts off in a very positive mood as we kick-start a new phase after some two weeks of studying for the exams that conclude semester one.

But this time I will channel my thoughts into not falling into the temptation of waiting for the last two weeks before I even start realising that the next set of exams are just behind my doorstep. I have been making this same resolution over and over again, but I just fail to comply with it.

The good feeling that leaves me so cheerful right after I finish my exams just takes over and drags me into laziness.

Even though I might not be in the mood to work that hard at the beginning of the second semester, I’m very excited about what’s about to come with new credits, possibly more interesting than the ones I had so far.

Now that I’m halfway through my studies, I hope my lectures will be more practical . As far as I’ve seen from the first few lectures, this smile on my face will not be fading any time soon.
