Hillary Briffa, a Maltese student living in London, has spoken of the chaotic moments that followed a terror attack outside a mosque in Finsbury Park.

One man was killed and 10 people injured when a van drove into a crowd of people emerging from evening prayers yesterday evening, the latest in a series of terror attacks to hit the UK this year.

Ms Briffa, 25, who lives just minutes away, told the Times of Malta she ran to the scene when she heard people shouting about an attack to see the van used in the attack and a crowd of people trying to get to the attacker, who had just been restrained by police.

“Women were crying, people were shouting: 'White supremacist!' 'Islamophobe!' 'This is an act of terror!' 'Where is the BBC? Where is the media?”

As Ms Briffa’s apartment is within the police cordon, she has been at home since the attack. She described the mood in the area this afternoon as a mix of calm and anger, with some taking out their frustration at police manning the cordon.
