Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil this evening urged voters to choose hope over fear when casting their votes on Saturday, insisting that scaremongering tactics by the Labour Party were no longer effective.

Addressing supporters during a political event in San Ġwann, Dr Busuttil said the Prime Minister and Labour Party leader often resorted to scaremongering when his back was against the wall.

“When Joseph Muscat cannot find a way to defend himself, we all know that he resorts to mudslinging but with us, this does not stick.

“Earlier today, during the recording of the live debate being broadcast tonight, he tried that again but it just doesn’t stick because we have integrity,” Dr Busuttil said.

Pointing to some of the claims about the PN made by the Labour Party in recent weeks, Dr Busuttil dismissed these, insisting these were nothing but lies.

“Dr Muscat starts saying things like how the economy will be stagnant under a PN government, but how is this possible? We were the ones who built the economy, how is that possible?” the PN leader pleaded.

In the face of such lies, he went on, people should stop, think, reflect and then judge.

Reading an e-mail he received this morning from a 25-year-old accountant, Dr Busuttil said this was proof that people were concerned by what had been happening and come Saturday, they would vote for change.

“The young man told me that it takes years to build a good reputation but only five minutes to destroy it - and he is right, that is why we need change,” Dr Busuttil said.

Pointing to some of the PN proposals, Dr Busuttil said that a new Nationalist government would not only build on what was good but it would also ensure that it continued to improve the different sectors. He referred to measures to cut income tax, the creation of “quality” jobs and the cutting down of fuel prices as some examples.
