Tests are being carried out by WasteServ on certain processes which could be contributing to the stench being generated around the Sant' Antnin plant in Marsascala, the company said this evening.

Referring to questions raised yesterday by Nationalist MP Charlo Bonnici, it said that the new management inherited a lack of preventive maintenance programmes as well as serious design flaws in parts of the plant, which led to the plant suffering serious damages in one of the tanks that stored the material out of which biogas is produced.

In view of the damage, preventive maintenance was taken for the first time on another three thanks for more damage to be prevented.

WasteServ also took the opportunity to also properly service the machine which generated electricity.

All these changes as well as others were being discussed during regular monitoring committee meetings, it said.
