A Briton has accepted to be extradited to the UK where he is wanted for allegedly threatening his estranged wife with her life.
Paul John Newall, 45, born in London but living in St Paul’s Bay, is wanted by the Bristol Magistrates’ Court over allegations that he made a series of threats to harm and kill his separated wife and her family last year. An arrest warrant was issued when he failed to appear in a Maltese court last month.
The court gave Mr Newall until the end of July to consider his position and to declare whether he was accepting the extradition. He was granted bail against a deposit of €4,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.
In handing down judgment, Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna noted that Mr Newall had voluntarily consented to the extradition, which must take place within 10 days.
Lawyer Donatella Frendo Dimech, head of the Attorney General’s international cooperation unit, and Police Inspector Chris Galea Scanura, from the International Police Unit, prosecuted.
