President Emeritus Guido de Marco was discharged from Mater Dei Hospital yesterday after recovering from complications he developed before undergoing a scheduled angioplasty last Thursday.

The hospital’s medical team said he had made a very good recovery and would continue to be closely monitored. At one time the former President was in a critical condition.

Before leaving hospital Prof. de Marco, 79, thanked all hospital staff for their dedication and professional care, as well as the authorities, the media and the public for the outpouring of solidarity towards him and his family.

He said the words of support and encouragement he received truly strengthened his spirits and determination in the difficult moments he passed through.

In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, the Nationalist Party welcomed the good news and wished him good health so he would continue to enjoy his family and give a valuable contribution to the country.
