A concert dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi will be held in Sagrestia Vault at the Valletta Waterfront on April 29 at 7.30 p.m.

Excerpts from Verdi’s operas will be performed, including and the aria Forse la Soglie Attinse from the opera Un Ballo in Maschera by Joseph Aquilina. This aria has not been performed live in Malta for many years.

The programme will also feature arias from La Traviata, such as Addio al Passato, Dei Miei Bollenti Spiriti and the duets Brindisi and Parigi o Cara; A La Paterna Mano from Macbeth, Ave Maria from Otello and La Mia Letizia Infondere from I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata.

Verdi composed 37 operas in all, as well sacred works and other songs. His compositional output lasted 58 years, his last opera being Falstaff, four years before his death in 1901.

His most famous works include La Traviata, Aida, La Forza del Destino, Un Ballo in Maschera and Macbeth.

The performers will be soprano Marita Bezzina and tenor Joseph Aquilina. They will be accompanied by pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa, who will also perform some arias by Verdi arranged for piano.
