The locals councils of Vittoriosa and St Paul's Bay are among the finalists in the European Enterprise Awards, 2010.

Vittoriosa local council will be competing with finalists in the category of 'Promoting Entrepreneurship', while St Paul's Bay local council will be competing in the category of 'Improvement of business environment'.

Both local councils were invited by the Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry within the EU to attend to the conference 'Getting SMEs on the Road to recovery - The Small Business Act for Europe and European Enterprise Awards 2010: exchange of good practice'.

They were also invited to the presentation ceremony of these prestigious awards organised by the European Commission in collaboration with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union.

These two events will take place in Madrid, on May 31. A plenary session and panel discussion on implementing the Small Business Act will take place.

This will be followed by workshops, during which shortlisted candidates for the competition will be able to present their projects. The ceremony will take place in the Real Fabrica de Tapices, Madrid.

On June 1, the conference will continue with workshops on aspects of implementing the Small Business Act.

Vittoriosa local council will be represented by mayor John Boxall and executive secretary Christine Bonello, while St Paul's Bay local council will be represented by Mayor Graziella Galea and councillor Peter Abela.
