The eagerly-anticipated 2015 Triple Handed Round Gozo race will be held today.

A mixed armada of racers and cruisers will contest the first edition of this regatta organised by the Vikings Sailing Club.

Commencing from Courve Port at Manoel Island, the race sails off at 8.30am. The organisers are expecting 15 yachts to take part.

The overall prize, sponsored by Emirates Airlines, will be awarded to the overall monohull winner under IRC.

However, this honour can be claimed by an array of different yachts and crews.

Set to lead the front end of the fleet, in the quest for line honours, should be one of the new XP44 but in sailing, you expect the unexpected with mother nature having its final say on the day.

Following the departure from Marsamxett Harbour, the course takes the fleet heading in a north-north westerly direction around Gozo, through the Comino Channel finishing back in Valletta – a distance of 45 nautical miles.

Depending on the weather conditions, the Vikings Sailing Club expect the boats to finish late in the afternoon.
