Wirt Għawdex is glad to be able to reassure Fr Geoffrey G. Attard (Niche Needs Restoration, May 18) that this niche, as well as others in Victoria, have been included in a restoration project between Victoria local council and Wirt Għawdex.

The joint project team has identified the first four that are in most need of immediate attention and this includes the specific one mentioned by Fr Attard. In fact the necessary Mepa permits are already on hand.

As one can imagine, the process required to restore these niches involves much more than simple patching and painting and both Wirt Għawdex and the council want to ensure that this job is done expertly and professionally.

A person from the Malta Restoration Centre has also offered his services towards this restoration project. Our restoration project co-ordinator is drafting the work statement with the architect in order to issue the call for tenders.

It is encouraging to see that the public is becoming much more aware of our heritage and is not willing to just let it deteriorate.
